January 2010
Once again, it is time to keep you informed about Teatro Pavana. At the end of last year, we have been in Qatar and in Thailand. Below you can read about our experiences there.
Qatar is an Arab Emirate, a neighbouring country of Saudi Arabia. Three large giraffes, the baby-giraffe and our zoo-keeper performed in the capital, Doha, on the local market called Souq Waqif. It seemed as if we landed in the tale of 1001 nights! The changing room was an open space with Persian carpets everywhere, lovely to do the warming-up! The people were very interested in the giraffes and they liked to touch them. At the end of the day the temperature was still very high, but since the Giraffes got used to these conditions in Israël we were able to cope just fine. From time to time, during the performance, we heard prayers from the mosques, normally all activities then cease for prayer, but since we had no music, we were allowed to continue.
The last day, we have been on jeep safari through the desert, which was very exciting.
All in all, a wonderful experience!
December last year Teatro Pavana, was participating for the second time in the "International Street Show" in the Lumpinipark of Bangkok, Thailand. The year before, we were there with the Giraffe, and after the success of what we had, we came back with the Coloract, this time. It was a great experience! The Thai public is a very respectful, attentive and enthusiastic public. Street theatre wise, they don’t have much experience, so it was clear to see the public enjoyed it very much. As soon as we stopped to do our, choreography, the public came in a hurry from all distances, and formed a huge circle around us, in a wink of an eye. That was really great. There have even been made recordings of us in the main tv-studio's of Bangkok for a cultural programme. This was also very enjoyable. In the studio, we did a 5-minute choreography of Colors. This will be broadcasted at the end of January.
And ... ... ...for December this year, we have been promised that we can come back with the Antilopi! On to the next adventure!

October 2009
Another highlight was the Acco festival in Israël. For the most of us the first time in Israël. The sun was shining and the temperature was over 30 degrees Celsius each day. Fortunately the beach and the sea were nearby, and gratefully we made use of the high waves.
We opened with the Antilopi. The rehearsal, prior, proved its usefulness. The beautiful music in the background matched with the gracefull movements of these beasts. Yet the Giraffe was by far the most favourite. The next day, the organization asked us therefore to do this act twice. On Tuesday morning we told each other, it was so relaxed that we didn’t have to worry about the weather. (it never rains in October). Tuesday afternoon we saw dark clouds above the sea, which we persistently ignored. On Tuesday evening, at the end of the first act, the sky opened up. With an unprecedented velocity the rain poured down, and with an unprecedented velocity, all the people and artists disappeared. The streets were and remained empty and the festival was cancelled for the rest of the evening. The poor Giraffe were soaked but with loving care they were ready for action the next day. For the rest of the week, the sun was shining as if nothing had happened. The final performance were the Antilopi again. Despite the temperature and the heavy costumes, they gave their very best for a thunderous finale. The public was very exited and clapped their hands black and blue to the rhythm of the music. Some enthusiastic women even danced around the Antilopi. The performers didn’t know how to stop and showed the audience their best. When they eventually took of the costumes, the artists were just as soaked as if they had been standing outside in the Tuesday rain.
Tired but satisfied, we look back on a successful week.
P.S.

September 2009
All though these are busy times, we don’t want to deprive you from some impressions we made this summer.
For the first time we played our “Le Dame e La Serva act. It was on the Kleines Fest im Grossen Garten Festival in Germany. This festival, were we’ve been invited many a year, is still one of the highlights of the season. We meet a lot of old acquaintances and we make new friends every year. Despite the weather we’ve had a splendid three weeks, not in least because of the enthusiastic audience. All together it was a totally different way of acting than we were used to, but with hard work our performance got better every day and we were feeling more familiar with the act. In the beautiful park we really felt at home in our pretty costumes. We received a lot of warm and nice reactions from the public and the organization.
This year we visited the “Limburg Festival” again. For this occasion we revived our trolls-act “Folletti”, inspired by Tolkien, and added a new dramatic point of view. The rehearsals went very well and our act was a tremendous success in our warm south. It became an intimate performance which the children liked as well. Unfortunately, this fairytale came to a premature ending for our performer, Alki. She got hurt when she tripped in a hole and regretfully she couldn’t go on. We were lucky to find a replacement on short notice though. We had to do a lot of improvising but all in all we made it to a happy ending.
Till the next newsletter!
June 2009
Finally our new website is ready. We’re very pleased and we hope that you’ll like it too. We’re going to update it regularly and a fresh newsletter will be published from time to time. Suggestions and ideas we welcome. We invite you to take a look everywhere, don’t forget to watch our new Giraffe-movie (shot on St. Mark’s Square in Venice), very nice.
Also, we proudly present our new act “Le Dame”. Le Dame has a new approach compared to the other acts. On stilts, but without masks , these high and mighty ladies, advance wearing their wonderful costumes and this time they speak! There’ll be more room for acting as well. Le Dame will open in Hannover (Germany) in July and we hope that we may perform it at home and abroad many a time. Below you can see pictures of the “nearly finished” costumes, so you can get an impression. Soon you’ll find more information and photo’s on our website.
You can see in our agenda that we’re getting busy this year. New places and new countries we’re going to appear. Luckily, we’re welcome to perform for many old acquaintances as well. Useful features are the links to the festival websites.
We wish you a pleasant visit to our new website.
