November 2011

Dear Folks,

Fall has begun again, time for  Pavana to slow down a bit after a hectic summer.
A summer we look back on with pleasure. Mainly it's because of our new act the "Struzzi" on which we have worked very hard. The costumes cost us a lot of headaches, but are completely to our liking now.  Much time has also gone into the rehearsals. Time well spent, according to the super-enthusiastic responses of the audience. We also created
a nice little performance  with the  Struzzi supported by beautiful subtle percussion, starring an egg ...
In the mean while The Ostriches have seen a lot of the world and the same goes for the other acts this year. Teatro Pavana was very well represented in Hanover. This year we welcomed the public with eight giraffes. The Struzzi had their European premiere in Hannover and also the Uccelli made their contribution to the Kleines Fest.
Probably hundreds of thousands of people looked at,  what must have been,  the strangest  Giraffe-act ever. The Giraffe dressed in zebra suits did their bit for the opening ceremony of the brand new Juventus stadium. It was broadcasted live on TV there.

Further adventures were experienced in St. Petersburg on the only hot day in the year there. Hopefully we can visit Cyprus again next year. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our performances as well as the nature.
Taiwan made a very big impression on us and if we may believe the  organization of the Tamsui  festival so did the Colors on Taiwan. The overwhelming nice comments from the audience, made us  a little bashful. The great weather, fantastic food but above all the very kind people, were unforgettable.

Soon on our new website: the official Struzzi movie.

We can hardly wait!

June 2011,

Dear folks!

After a long incubation time our eggs finally hatched! We proudly announce the birth
of the "Struzzi". The "Struzzi" has its premiere in June 2011. Next month they’re going to take their first cautious steps on their international career ladder in Hannover.

These beautiful ostrich-like creatures  walk on dignified. Two Struzzi each have a unique colorful plumage. The other two are in varying degrees from black to white. They may seem a bit proud-hearted, but in fact, they are very friendly animals. It looks like their riders have become one with this strong , elegant ratites.

The new act of Teatro Pavana composed of up to 4 Struzzi, they are always accompanied by a dresser.

With warm regards,

Teatro Pavana

March 2011

Dear folks,

It's been too long since the last newsletter. High Time to get back to you with some news from Teatro Pavana.  As for performances, we are still in the quiet season but behind the scenes we’ve been working hard on our new ostrich-act  :" Struzzi”. It is a painstaking task to fabricate the five costumes, but the result is going to be very beautiful! After visiting a real ostrich farm,  where we have studied the physical properties of these birds very well ,  we are even more inspired and motivated to conclude this job successfully.

In July 2011 The "Struzzi" will have its premiere in Hanover. These beautiful ostrich-like creatures stride on dignified. Each has its own unique, colourful plumage. They may appear a bit haughty  about but in fact, they  are very friendly animals. Their riders seem to have grown together with these strong but elegant ratites. Even the smallest Struzzo has a one on his back. Are they from this world?

Fortunately, in  Hanover they aren’t  fed up with us yet. Not only all five ostriches, but also eight Giraffe and three Uccilli, are invited to bring luster to the "Kleines Fest" this year. But before we go there, very soon, we travel to the Carnival in Nice, of course we have many gigs in the Netherlands and Belgium and some in France and Spain. We will be in Romania for the first time! We are invited to the Sibiu International Theatre Festival. A fair description, because there are indeed artists from all over the world. We are very curious about what we are going to experience over there . Probably you will read al about it in the next newsletter.

September 2010

Dear folks,

After a very busy summer with performances in Germany, Serbia, Canada and the Achterhoek, we finally found some time to write a fresh newsletter.

We were lucky to be invited to the Hanover Kleines Fest im Groβen Garten again. The festival has, thanks to the wonderful park, every year a great atmosphere. Besides a warm reunion with many acquaintances, it was a tough job. Every night eight (!) Colors welcomed the incoming audience with a stunning choreography among the beautiful trees. It was a great compliment that the visitors took the time to see us, especially if you knew that there were plenty of other special acts scheduled. After this elaborating reception, work was not done for Teatro Pavana. While 4 of us put on the Antilopi costumes, the others dealt with the Giraffes. These acts brought us a lot of attention also and we received great comments. Although temperatures sometimes reached great heights it was again a pleasant time for us.

Entirely new to us was the Fortress Festival of Smederevo, Serbia. A festival with a beautiful old fort for a scenery. The act Folletti attracted many children. They sympathized so intensely that some were a bit scared. Thanks to the good fairy they could leave with a happy feeling. The Colors were that successful, that one live television appearance with the director of the festival was not enough. After a gig we were surprised with an invitation to come along at once. Before we knew it we were the centre of a press conference. An interviewer assisted by an interpreter subjected us to many questions, while photo cameras were flashing and film cameras were rolling. Instantly, we had to explain the deeper meaning of the Color choreography and they were very curious about the dramatic concept of Folletti. Yet an experience that we will not soon forget.

The summer is slowly coming to its end but that doesn´t mean we can take it easy. Trips to Japan, Israel and Thailand are in the near future. Probably we return to you on these subjects in our next newsletter. ______________________________________________________

January 2010

Dear Folks,

Once again, it is time to keep you informed about Teatro Pavana.

At the end of last year, we have been in Qatar and in Thailand. Below you can read about our experiences there. Qatar is an Arab Emirate, a neighbouring country of Saudi Arabia. Three large giraffes, the baby-giraffe and our zoo-keeper performed in the capital, Doha, on the local market called Souq Waqif. It seemed as if we landed in the tale of 1001 nights! The changing room was an open space with Persian carpets everywhere, lovely to do the warming-up! The people were very interested in the giraffes and they liked to touch them. At the end of the day the temperature was still very high, but since the Giraffes got used to these conditions in Israël we were able to cope just fine. From time to time, during the performance, we heard prayers from the mosques, normally all activities then cease for prayer, but since we had no music, we were allowed to continue. The last day, we have been on jeep safari through the desert, which was very exciting. All in all, a wonderful experience!

December last year Teatro Pavana, was participating for the second time in the "International Street Show" in the Lumpinipark of Bangkok, Thailand. The year before, we were there with the Giraffe, and after the success of what we had, we came back with the Coloract, this time. It was a great experience! The Thai public is a very respectful, attentive and enthusiastic public. Street theatre wise, they don’t have much experience, so it was clear to see the public enjoyed it very much. As soon as we stopped to do our, choreography, the public came in a hurry from all distances, and formed a huge circle around us, in a wink of an eye. That was really great. There have even been made recordings of us in the main tv-studio's of Bangkok for a cultural programme. This was also very enjoyable. In the studio, we did a 5-minute choreography of Colors. This will be broadcasted at the end of January.

And ... ... ...for December this year, we have been promised that we can come back with the Antilopi! On to the next adventure! ____________________________________________________

October 2009

Dear folks,

The busy summer period is behind us now. For Pavana, this doesn’t mean that we can rest on our laurels. Rehearsals are scheduled and there are many new ideas for our new act Le Dame e La Serva. This act has had also in Staufen, Germany, a huge amount of nice reactions. In the meantime, we have also been to Podgorica, Montenegro.

Another highlight was the Acco festival in Israël. For the most of us the first time in Israël. The sun was shining and the temperature was over 30 degrees Celsius each day. Fortunately the beach and the sea were nearby, and gratefully we made use of the high waves. We opened with the Antilopi. The rehearsal, prior, proved its usefulness. The beautiful music in the background matched with the gracefull movements of these beasts. Yet the Giraffe was by far the most favourite. The next day, the organization asked us therefore to do this act twice. On Tuesday morning we told each other, it was so relaxed that we didn’t have to worry about the weather. (it never rains in October). Tuesday afternoon we saw dark clouds above the sea, which we persistently ignored. On Tuesday evening, at the end of the first act, the sky opened up. With an unprecedented velocity the rain poured down, and with an unprecedented velocity, all the people and artists disappeared. The streets were and remained empty and the festival was cancelled for the rest of the evening. The poor Giraffe were soaked but with loving care they were ready for action the next day. For the rest of the week, the sun was shining as if nothing had happened. The final performance were the Antilopi again. Despite the temperature and the heavy costumes, they gave their very best for a thunderous finale. The public was very exited and clapped their hands black and blue to the rhythm of the music. Some enthusiastic women even danced around the Antilopi. The performers didn’t know how to stop and showed the audience their best. When they eventually took of the costumes, the artists were just as soaked as if they had been standing outside in the Tuesday rain. Tired but satisfied, we look back on a successful week. P.S. Do not forget to check our new video of Le Dame e La Serva!

September 2009

Dear folks,

Although these are busy times, we don’t want to deprive you from some impressions we experienced this summer.

For the first time we played our “Le Dame e La Serva act. It was on the Kleines Fest im Grossen Garten Festival in Germany. This festival, were we’ve been invited many a year, is still one of the highlights of the season. We meet a lot of old acquaintances and we make new friends every year. Despite the weather we’ve had a splendid three weeks, not in least because of the enthusiastic audience. All together it was a totally different way of acting than we were used to, but with hard work our performance got better every day and we were feeling more familiar with the act. In the beautiful park we really felt at home in our pretty costumes. We received a lot of warm and nice reactions from the public and the organization.

This year we visited the “Limburg Festival” again. For this occasion we revived our trolls-act “Folletti”, inspired by Tolkien, and added a new dramatic point of view. The rehearsals went very well and our act was a tremendous success in our warm south. It became an intimate performance which the children liked as well. Unfortunately, this fairytale came to a premature ending for our performer, Alki. She got hurt when she tripped in a hole and regretfully she couldn’t go on. We were lucky to find a replacement on short notice though. We had to do a lot of improvising but all in all we made it to a happy ending. Till the next newsletter!

Suggestions and ideas we welcome. We invite you to take a look everywhere, don’t forget to watch our new Giraffe-movie (shot on St. Mark’s Square in Venice), very nice. Also, we proudly present our new act “Le Dame”. Le Dame has a new approach compared to the other acts. On stilts, but without masks , these high and mighty ladies, advance wearing their wonderful costumes and this time they speak! There’ll be more room for acting as well. Le Dame will open in Hannover (Germany) in July and we hope that we may perform it at home and abroad many a time. Below you can see pictures of the “nearly finished” costumes, so you can get an impression. Soon you’ll find more information and photo’s on our website.

You can see in our agenda that we’re getting busy this year. New places and new countries we’re going to appear. Luckily, we’re welcome to perform for many old acquaintances as well. Useful features are the links to the festival websites. We wish you a pleasant visit to our new website.
